How long have you worked at Examity?
I have been at Examity since January 2021.

What is your role at Examity, and why do you find it gratifying?
I work as a full-stack developer in one of our scrum teams, Notorious Eng. I find working at Examity gratifying because I have many opportunities to build my skills, grow my career, and work with a group of collaborative and creative people. Also, the projects we deliver directly improve our clients’ satisfaction and test-taker experience, which makes me very proud!

Why do you love working with your colleagues?
Who wouldn’t love to work with a group of lovely, kind, warm, and knowledgeable people? My colleagues respect each other, and they are always willing to provide help!

What was the most unexpected challenge that you faced when first starting with Examity?
I did not encounter any unexpected challenges when first starting with Examity. The remote onboarding process was pretty smooth. Examity provided me with a great team to help me understand the products and architecture, as well as well-documented resources to help me with setting up the developing environment.

What advice do you have for prospective Examity employees?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions or seek out others for help! We are all very willing to offer assistance. Also, make sure to take advantage of Examity’s vast amount of learning opportunities. For instance, “Learning Wednesday,” occurring biweekly, can help developers enhance their skills by picking a topic to learn about and providing half a day or more of dedicated learning time to the topic. Another session includes “Breakfast/Dinner and Learn.” Happening once every two weeks, this offers a team member a chance to present an area of interest to the team. These learning opportunities are some of the many things at Examity that help us grow together as a team!

Fun fact your colleagues might not know about you.
I started my own startup company when I was 21 in Guangzhou, China. I was able to grow that company from three people to a team of 40+ employees, and it then stood as the lead watch strap seller in China’s online market. After a few years of development, I realized that my knowledge and skills were no longer enough for me to advance the business any further, so I decided to go back to school to pursue my degrees in the US. I then switched from a career in management to software development: Because of my prior experiences, I realized that the computer science world was a better match for me!

When I’m not at Examity, I’m probably ___.
…running, or hanging out with my friends. If it’s winter, then I’m probably snowboarding!
